Who Needs Corporate Training and Why?
Continuous education and self-development of company employees is the key to not only survival but also victory in the competition, believes Oleg Glazunov, Director of the Institute of Supplementary Education and Corporate Development at the Institute for the Humanities and Information Technologies (IGUMO). In his interview with the Global Women Media news agency, the expert talked about the relevance of educational programmes for business and shared his experience in implementing them.

This year, the IGUMO team created the Institute of Supplementary Education and Corporate Development. Oleg Glazunov, marketing expert and Director of the Institute of Supplementary Education and Corporate Development at IGUMO, answered the most pressing questions about corporate training and spoke about the uniqueness of the programmes being implemented.
– Why did the administration of the Institute of Supplementary Education and Corporate Development at IGUMO decide to create a separate course related to corporate training?
– Marina Volynkina, our head and Rector of IGUMO, is a forward-looking person. She always looks at the world around her realistically and pragmatically. At the same time, she is naturally endowed with infinite business optimism and collaboration energy. Thanks to her unique qualities, Marina Volynkina inspires the whole team to improve, develop, and build a better future.
Today, social engineering is one of the advanced trends. It presupposes mutual integration of participants of value chains, cooperation of experts on the basis of mutual trust, and sum of competencies for creating new types of activities and business communities.
The companies, which create their own organisational technologies of corporate education in cooperation with their partners, win in the competition thanks to the speed and continuity of personnel training. Therefore, our further vector of development has become a logical step for everyone. On the one hand, it presupposes attracting the attention of knowledge consumers to our educational products. – Why is that necessary for Russian business? Will the supplementary education programme be useful only to those who have specific problems in the development of projects or even to those who are doing well?
– In my opinion, all those saying that everything is fine in their business today either aren’t quite honest or do not fully understand the scale of market turbulence and that of the destruction of value-added chains and technological chains. Changes in the market may not be visible to everyone but they are large-scale and comprehensive. One must be ready to face them.
The world practice of management shows that almost any task associated with increasing the efficiency of the company may be solved by means of training and motivation of personnel. Those methods are almost a magic ‘pill’ that one should consider taking.
When all team members know exactly WHAT, HOW, and WHY they should do, the question of competing in the market almost disappears. The winners are always those whose work is based on making quick and verified decisions backed up by knowledge and precise calculations.
Today, people widely discuss the automation of business processes. The above-mentioned approach can partially solve the problem of increasing efficiency. However, when we speak about erudition, conscious responsibility for decision-making, practical experience, and creativity no program, even the smartest one, can do better than people.
Any artificial intelligence is just an assistant to the natural one. Thus, people play a key role in any business.
A manager can communicate fully with a limited number of employees (usually no more than seven). Therefore, to make sure that the team works effectively, it is extremely important to ensure that the remaining employees have a sufficient level of knowledge and experience. They must be able to be responsible for solving problems, take the initiative, and work for the result.
If each employee knows exactly what to do (subject of activity, goals, and objectives), how to do it (technologies, ways to achieve the goals), and realizes why he or she is doing it (personal motivation), then the company will be successful. Modern equipment, free finances, administrative resources, or the relevance of the niche are also important but they have a secondary role here. People themselves with their attitudes and professionalism are of primary importance.
Over the past 30 years, Russian market has witnessed many situations when companies that seemed strong and successful with all the above-mentioned technical and material advantages left the market. They were replaced by businesses carried out by teams with stronger knowledge and spirit. – How relevant is corporate training in the realities of today’s global crisis and falling incomes?
– It is more relevant than ever. The usual economic systems and foundations of the world are being broken down right before our eyes. Soviet political economy would call that the systemic crisis of imperialism. In modern economic terminology, it is called the systemic crisis of capitalism, which has limited itself to growth based on loan debts. The contours of a new economy are just beginning to emerge but there are no clear agreements yet.
We are at a point of polifurcation, where any significant event triggers a new scenario for the future. A profound economic, social, political, and institutional crisis is currently plaguing the system of the capitalist world. Russia is no exception and is affected directly because of being in the loop of the global economy.
In Chinese, the word ‘crisis’ has two kanji. The first of them means ‘danger’ and the second one has several meanings one of which is ‘opportunity’. It is especially important to remember about that today.
Stagnation can hardly bring some good. It never contributes to development. For true entrepreneurs who create new jobs, industries, and markets with their segments, crisis is in impetus to further development. At this point, some unscrupulous competitors are simply ‘eliminated’. Everything depends on the readiness of the business to face the crisis and the team’s ability to make decisions, take risks, and transform quickly.
Self-education, constant renewal of knowledge and expansion of its boundaries, and the desire to obtain information from different fields are the things that help professionals stay afloat even during a crisis.
The modern world is so unstable and rapidly changeable that self-education is fruitful only when it is continuous.
